Students take part in bamboo workshop in China
During the recent Autumn break twenty students and three teachers of the IPO and IDE programs participated in a workshop around new designs and new applications of the material Bamboo in Suzhou China. The workshop has been initiated and organized together with the XJTLU (Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University) and Moso (market leader Bamboo flooring). Together with the participating partners the following directions were defined:
- Bamboo Flooring new surface appearances;
- Bamboo Flooring new flooring installation methods and patterns;
- Bamboo Panels_new surface appearances/constructions;
- Bamboo Products_free category;
- Exhibition system for final expo.
The workshop started with a visit to a Bamboo forrest and several suppliers of Moso. After getting familiar with the material and production processes the workshop started with initial brainstorm sessions. In a pressure cooking setting of four days, the students succeeded in developing ideas and concepts resulting at the end in first prototypes. Apart from the workshop a social and cultural side program was organized.
Below you’ll find a link to a video which gives an impression of this very inspiring Bamboo workshop. The video has been made by the XJTLU, so it’s a bit from their perspective. The models and prototypes will be send over to us, depending on their condition after shipping we will probably use those for a small exhibition.
